Board

A Kanban view of the active sprint. Drag tasks between columns to update their status.

Boards originate from a Kanban-style working system where team members allocate tasks to themselves independently. Boards help you track work as it moves through your team during an active sprint. Tasks sit in status columns (Trellis's default workflow has three core statuses: To do, In progress, Done — though you can create and customise your own workflow to mirror your specific process). Dragging a task to a new column automatically updates its status.

A quick tour of the Board view.

What you can do here

  • Move tasks — drag and drop tasks across the board, or select an individual task and update its status directly to keep your team's progress up to date.
  • Create new tasks — spot a gap that needs filling? Select the + button at the top of any status column to add a new task without leaving the board.
  • Reorder status columns — move columns around to match the workflow that makes most sense for your team and projects.
  • Filter the board — narrow to a particular assignee, priority, type, or label from the filter panel. The Labels tab searches every label in the workspace by name, which is the quickest way to pull a themed slice of the sprint — everything tagged Client task, say — out of a busy board.

If you need more status options for your projects, go to Settings → Workflows to create additional statuses. To edit your existing workflow, select the three-dot menu at the far right of the board and choose Modify Workflow.

As tasks move across columns, their status updates everywhere else in Trellis too: the Project Overview widgets, task reports, and any sprint progress rings all reflect the changes in real time.

* Project membership required. Members, Contributors, and Viewers can only open a project they've been added to, and every starred write needs membership from every role — Owners and Admins included. Trellis offers to add you when you hit one.

Viewers see the Board in read-only mode — they can watch work move across columns but can't drag tasks, create new ones, or touch column configuration. Members and Contributors can move tasks and create new ones, but not reorder columns or open the workflow editor, since those actions change configuration shared across every project using the workflow.
